Prescription de psychotropes aux enfants et aux adolescents : conflits d'intérêts

Since the 1990s, the annual growth rates of the prescription of psychotropic drugs to children and adolescents dramatically increased in the United-States. This paper aims at studying the mechanisms which contribute to this phenomenon and, in particular, the transformation of the clinical entities by the new classifications of diseases. The financial ties between the pharmaceutical companies and the renowned psychiatrists who participate in redefining the mental pathologies will be analyzed, as well as the conflicts of interest which have been given a large media coverage since the investigation carried out by the American Congress last summer.
Le taux annuel de prescription de psychotropes pour les enfants et les adolescents aux États-Unis a subi une forte augmentation à partir des années 1990. Cet article vise à analyser les mécanismes qui y contribuent et, notamment, la transformation des entités cliniques par les nouvelles classifications des maladies. Les relations entre entreprises pharmaceutiques et psychiatres renommés qui participent à redéfinir les pathologies mentales seront analysées, ainsi que les conflits d'intérêts largement médiatisés depuis l'enquête du Congrès américain de l'été 2008.
